Compression and Cohesive Wraps Compared: Coban, Medi-Rip, EZe-BAND, and AC-Tape

Compression and Cohesive Wraps Compared: Coban, Medi-Rip, EZe-BAND, and AC-Tape

Compression and securement wraps are easy to confuse on the supply cart — they often look alike but behave differently in clinical use. With Coban, Medi-Rip, EZe-BAND, and AC-Tape all now in stock, it is worth being precise about which one belongs in which workflow.

Solventum Coban Self-Adherent Wrap

Coban is a cohesive elastic wrap that sticks to itself but not to skin, hair, or clothing. That makes it the right choice for securing dressings, providing light compression, and protecting wounds without needing tape, pins, or clips. It is stocked in 1", 2", 3", 4", and 6" widths and in tan, white, blue, and red — useful when you want to color-code by department or limb.

Hartmann Medi-Rip Self-Adherent Bandage

Medi-Rip is also self-adherent, but it is woven from 99% cotton yarn — more breathable and cooler against the skin than synthetic alternatives. It tears cleanly by hand and conforms readily to body contours. The team-pack and bulk box configurations make it a common choice for athletic training rooms and high-volume outpatient clinics.

Hartmann EZe-BAND LF Elastic Bandage with Self Closure

EZe-BAND is an orthopedic-grade knitted elastic bandage with built-in self-closures at both ends, so it does not require pins, clips, or tape to secure. It is intended for controlled compression and support and is available in regular and double lengths across 2", 3", 4", and 6" widths. The LF (latex-free) construction is important for patients and staff with latex sensitivities.

Hartmann AC-Tape LF Elastic Adhesive Bandages

AC-Tape is different in kind — it is an elastic adhesive tape, not a cohesive or self-closing wrap. The latex-free adhesive base sticks to skin and itself, providing firm support, compression, and fixation that does not shift during movement. Feathered edges reduce irritation at the borders. Use it where you need an elastic tape that stays put, not a wrap you intend to reposition.

Choosing the Right Wrap

For securement and light compression that needs to come off cleanly, reach for Coban or Medi-Rip. For repeatable controlled compression with no fasteners, reach for EZe-BAND. For firm, adhesive elastic support that should not move, reach for AC-Tape. Keeping one of each on the cart covers nearly every wrap scenario without redundant SKUs.

Bottom Line

These four products are complementary, not interchangeable. A short stocking conversation with clinical staff to clarify when each is appropriate will reduce both waste and patient discomfort.
